Public phones are available on the street and also in many commercial outlets such as bars and restaurants.
You will need to purchase a phone card from the tobacconists, newsstand, post office or petrol station to be able to use public phones.
If you are phoning your home country it might be worth your while to purchase a pre-paid Phone card before coming to Italy.
Public phones do not usually accept credit cards.
The international code is 00 and the country code is 39 so to call outside Italy you should dial 00 39 and then the required number.
There are many different mobile phone companies in Italy such as Tim, Vodafone, Wind and 3.
You can take out a mobile phone subscription with any of these companies but it is probably simpler to use a cash card which can be topped up as required.
