Translations of documents from a foreign language into Italian are said to be legal or official:
- either when they have been performed by "sworn" translators; sworn translators in Italy are those professionals who swear at Civil Courts (Tribunali Civili) that their translation has faithfully respected the original text);
- or when they have been performed by non-professional translators (in Italy or abroad) and subsequently confirmed by the competent Italian diplomatic authorities as true to the original text.
