Smoking and drinking

Smoking is now forbidden in all public buildings restaurants and bars as well.

Outside public areas Ssmoking is still very common in Italy and in general Italians are very tolerant of smoke and smokers.

The legal age for drinking alcohol is 18. Wine is the traditional drink and is considered very much a part of the meal rather than a drink to be consumed in between meals.

In towns, young people enjoy going to bars for a drink and happy hours when snacks are served with drinks have become very popular especially in the towns and cities.

Beer is served cold and is drunk more often in the summer than in the colder months. It is the traditional beverage served with pizza.
